Abstract

PURPOSE: An epoxy resin composition suitable for an adhesive, a cast article, a coating compound having improved storage stability, curable rapidly at relatively low temperatures, consisting of an aromatic urea compound and (A) a precondensate of (a) a polyepoxide and (b) a polyamine or an acidic substance.
CONSTITUTION: A polyamine, e.g., phenylenediamine, etc. or a polycarboxylic acid (anhydride), e.g., succinic anhydride is reacted with a polyepoxide in a stoichiometric weight ratio of 1/1.4W1/6 at 50W200°C until the viscosity becomes not less than three times the initial one to give a precondensate. 100 parts by wt. of the precondensate thus obtained is blended with preferably 2W9 parts by wt. of an aromatic urea compound shown by the formulas I, II, and III (R is aromatic group; X and Y are H, CH3, Cl, Br, etc.), e.g., 1,1'- (4-methyl-m-phenylene)-bis- (3.3-dimethyl urea), etc. at 20W100°C to give the desired epoxy resin composition.
