Abstract

PURPOSE: To utilize the adsorbing capacity of active carbon to the maximum entent, by removing metal irons which would deteriorate the adsorbing capacity at the time of regeneration before performing the adsorbing treatment of the water containing the metal ions by the active arbon.
CONSTITUTION: A coagulating sedimentation vessel 1, a cation exchange resin filled tower 2, an active carbon adsorbing tower 3, a water washing unit 4 and an active carbon regenerating unit 5 are connected to one another. The acidity of cation exchange resin filled in the tower 2 may be low, medium or high if the resin is cationic. The cation exchange resin of low acidity is preferable because its exchange capacity is high and its regeneration is easy. The supernatant liquid of the water is supplied from the coagulating sedimentation vessel to the cation exchange resin filled tower 2, wherein the metal ions are removed from the water. Thereafter, the water is introduced into the active carbon adsorbing tower 3. Thereby, the adsorbing capacity of the active carbon is utilized to the maximum extent.
