Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform the effective clarification of water by using an adsorbent having a high adsorbability all the time by the procedure in which an adsorbent is supplied from the lower part of a vertical packed tower, waste adsorbent is drawn out of the upper part of the tower, and back washing is made.
CONSTITUTION: The adsorbent layer 2 of granular active carbon, etc., is formed in the vertical packed tower 1 and a liquid to be treated is passed in a downward countercurrent manner. When the adsorbent on the upper part is superannuated, regenerated or fresh adsorbent in a slurry is introduced by pressure by using a screw feeder, etc., provided below the tower 1, and then the waste adsorbent on the upper part is discharged with arrested solids in a slurry state from the pipe 4. And, back- washing water from the back-washing water tube 8 provided on the upper part of the packed tower is injected to wash flocs with solids off the adsorbent layer 2 into the pipe 9. Thus, the regeneration and supply of adsorbent can be reasonably performed to effect the clarification of water.
