Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the occurence of fin crack by pouring spheroidized molten nodular graphite cast iron into a metal mold and working the iron together with the mold.
CONSTITUTION: Molten nodular graphite cast iron spheroidized by adding a spheroidizing agent such as Mg is poured into metal mold 1 pref. enclosed with sand 3. The iron is then heated together with mold 1 and rolled at a reduction ratio at least above 50, pref. above 70%. Thus, a lamellar graphite structure in parallel with the longitudinal direction is obtd. and the resulting cast iron is very suitable for use as a damping material.
