Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound, by subjecting optically active 4-acetoxyphenylglycine, to formylation, condensation with a specific benzyl compound, partial hydrolysis, conversion to a mineral acid salt, acetylation, diazotization and acetylation, reduction and catalytic reduction one after another.
CONSTITUTION: Optically active 4-acetoxyphenylglycine is formylated, condensed with N-benzyl-3,4-dimethoxyphenethylamine, and partially hydrolyzed. The resulting product is convented to a mineral acid salt, and acetylated to form an acethylation procuct, which is then diazotized and acetylated. The reaction product thus formed is reduced and finally reduced catalytically to form optically active α-(3,4- dimethoxy-phenethylaminomethyl)-4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol.
USE: Pharmaceuticals having powerful and durable cardiotonic actions.
