Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound, by subjecting optically active 4-hydroxyphenylglycine to formylation, benzylation, condensation with N-benzyl-dimethoxyphenethylamine, partial hydrolysis, diazotization, reduction, and catalylic reduction one after another.
CONSTITUTION: Optically active 4-hydroxyphenylglycine is formylated, and the phenolic hydroxyl group of the resulting compound is benzylated and condensed with N-benzyl-3,4-dimethoxy-phenethylamine to give optically active N-formyl-N'- benzyl-N'-(3,4-dimethoxy phenethyl)-4-benzyloxy- phenylglycine amide, which is then partially hydrolyzed and diazotized in acetic acid, then reduced and catalytically reduced to form optically active α-(3,4-dimethoxyphenethylamino-methyl)-4- hydroxybenzyl alcohol.
