Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A β-Ionone derivative of formula 5.
USE: Synthetic intermediate of confertifolin and polygodial. Warburganal, agandencidial, etc., having antifeedant activity against African army worm, can be derived from conertifolin.
PREPARATION: Dihydro-β-ionone resulting from catalytic hydrogenation of β- ionone is dissolved in CH(CH3)3 and their reaction is effected under acidic condition by adding perchloric acid or so to form the tetramethoxy derivative of formula 3, aldehyde of formula 4 and ketone of formula 5. The compounds of formula 3, and 4 are also novel respectively.
