Abstract
PURPOSE: To enlarge the contact surface area with solid electrolyte, to increase the effect of catalyzer, and to enhance the durability by affixing copper to element surface by electroless plating, immersing in aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid of platinum chloride, and then electro-plating.
CONSTITUTION: An element made of solid electrolyte possessing oxygen ion conducting property is immersed in hydrofluoric acid solution, and the surface is roughened by etching. Then, by electroless plating of copper, the copper is affixed on the surface of the element. Immersing in aqueous solution of platinum chloride, the copper is substituted with the platinum, and the platinum is formed on the surface of the element. By repeating this process several times until the resistance of the electrode surface becomes, for instance, 10 Ω/cm, the platinum is electro-plated. By this, the platinum penetrates into the inside of the element, and the contact surface area with the solid electrolyte is enlarged. At the same time, the effect of the catalyzer is increased, and the durability at high temperature may be also enhanced.
