Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a resin having excellent impact resistance, gloss, etc., economically, without formation of coagulated material, by aggregating a rubber polymer at specific temperature and stirring torque, and graft-polymerizing an aromatic vinyl monomer to the rubber polymer.
CONSTITUTION: Sulfuric acid, etc. is added to the latex of polybutadiene or a copolymer consisting of butadiene (≥ 50 wt.%) and styrene, etc., thereby reducing the pH to ≤ 7 and aggregating the rubber polymer. Potassium bydroxide, etc. is added at ≥ 40°C while keeping the stirring torque below half of that in the following grafting. Preferably 100W400 parts by weight of an aromatic vinyl monomer (e.g. styrene, etc.) on the basis of 100 parts by weight of the rubber polymer is added to the reactor and emulsion graft-polymerized to give the desired resin.
EFFECT: Hard thermoplastic resin, e.g. polystyrene, etc. containing 5W30 wt.% of the graft polymer is useful for injection molding, extrusion molding, etc..
