Abstract

PURPOSE: A vinyl aromatic compound-conjugate diene random copolymer rubber that is obtained by effecting the polymerization with an organolithium catalyst and by treating the polymer with polyfunctional treating agent is dissolved in styrene and the polymerization is conducted to produce the titled resin with high extrusion processability, high toughness and impact strength.
CONSTITUTION: The solution polymerization of a monovinyl aromatic compound such as styrene and a 4W12C conjugate diene such as 1,3-butadiene is conduced using an organolithium-based catalyst containing a known polyfunctional organolithium compound such as 1,2-dilithio-1,2-diphenylethane or its mixture with n- butyllithium and the resultant copolymer is subjected to coupling with a polyfunctional treating agent having at least 2 or more reactive sites such as silicon tetrachloride to produce a random copolymer having a specific branched structure. The copolymer is dissolved usually in 2W30wt% of styrene and the radical bulk or suspension polymerization is effected. When molded, known additives are added or other polymers are blended, when needed.
