Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a ultraviolet ray irradiating apparatus which consists of a luminous bulb made of silica and a far-ultraviolet ray absorbing material made of ozone-less silica, and which is capable of controlling O3 formation to an extent harmless to human body, and capable of radiating far ultraviolet ray sufficient to cause photopolymerization such as curing of printing ink.
CONSTITUTION: The luminous bulbe 1 of an apparatus described in the title is made of ordinary silica, and luminous metal, e.g., mercury, and a rare gas, e.g., Ar, are encapsulated in it, and electrodes 2, 2 are seadled in the bulb 1 at the both ends respectively. A cylindrical outer tube 3 made of ozoneless silica is installed which is placed apart from the outside surface of the bulb 1 and encircles the bulb 1. By use of the apparauts of such a constitution, ultraviolet ray radiated from the bulb 1 irradiates through the outer tube 3 on the surface to be irradiated. While transmitting the outer tube 3, far ultraviolet ray is absorbed suitably to the extent sufficient to cause photopolymerization, e.g., curing of printing ink without formation of O3 to the extent harmful to human body
