Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance a sterilizing effect on bacteria in water and to generate mineral ions within a short time, by irradiating water having mineral ore containing an alkali metal immersed with ultraviolet rays having a radiation wave length of 253.7nm.
CONSTITUTION: Water vessel 1 is filled with water 2, and mineral ore 3 crushed into a pebble size is immersed in the water at the rate of 100g per 1kg of water. The mineral ore is one which does not contain harmful metals but an alkali metal efficiencious for human body and having a high ionization tendency, e.g., green tuff or the like. Thereafter, ultraviolet rays having a radiation wave length of 253.7nm are applied for 30min to the mineral ore 3 and the water 2 from an ultraviolet lamp 4 provided inside the water vessel 1. As a result, a lot of hydrated mineral ions are generated in the water within a short time, and bacteria in the water are sterilized by absorption of the ultraviolet rays.
