Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the corrosion resistance of a 13 Cr type martensitic stainless cast steel for paper-making suction rolls to acid by increasing the Cr content.
CONSTITUTION: A martensitic stainless cast steel contg. C<0.15%, Si<1.0%, Mn<1.0%, P<0.04%, S<0.04%, Cr; 13W16%, Ni; 1W3.5% and Mo; 1W2%. The corrosion resistance of the steel to acid is enhanced by increasig the Cr content to not less than 13% and the s-ferrite content is controlled to not more than 15% by limiting the Cr content to not more than 16%, thereby obtaining stable martensite structure. Ni enhances the corrosion resistance, strength and toughness by the composite effect with Cr, it, however, is limited to 1W3.5% becuase of its high cost. Thus, the corrosion resistance of the steel to acid is enhanced and the steel is suitable for use as a material for paper-making suction rolls
