Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the corrosion resistance of a 13 Cr type martensitic stainless cast steel to strong acid by increasing the Cr content and limiting the total content of Mo and W to a specific range.
CONSTITUTION: A martensitic stainless cast steel contg. C<0.15%, Si<1.0%, Mn<1.0%, P<0.04%, S<0.04%, Cr; 13W16%, Ni; 1W3.5%, Mo; 0.5W4% and W<4%, and limiting the total content of Mo and W to 0.6W4.5%. The corrosion resistance of the steel to acid is enhanced by increasing the Cr content to not less than 13%. Since Cr<16% increases s-ferrite structure, resulting in no stable martensite structure, the Cr content is limited to not more than 16% to control s-ferrite structure to not more than 20%. Mo and W enhance local action resistance, they, however, are limited to 0.6W4.5% in total because an excess of contents deteriorates the toughness. The steel is suitable for use as a material for paper-making rolls, stainless steel piping, etc
