Abstract

PURPOSE: To realize position detection as stable as to substantially ignore fluctuations of spacing between a magnetic resistance element and a magnetizing body by using parallel magnetic fields as the position signal source to indicate the absolute origin or the like.
CONSTITUTION: A magnetizing body 4 consisting of a pair of magnets is used as the position signal source to indicate the absolute origin of a digital position display device, and creates parallel magnetic fields in a space 5. A bias magnet 1 is designed to apply planar magnetic fields to magnetic sensors 2, 3. The direction of bias magnetic field is roughly at a right angle to the parallel magnetic fields created by the magnetizing body 4 in the space 5. When the magnetic sensors 2, 3 enter the parallel magnetic fields, a composite magnetic field of parallel and bias magnetic fields is detected to determine the detection signal of the magnetic sensore. Hence, a high and stable position detection precision may be obtained even if the relative positions of the magnetizing body 4 and magnetic sensors 2, 3 fluctuate when detecting the position
