Abstract
PURPOSE: To dehydrate hydrated ferrous chloride at such a low temp. as 100°C or below and enhance thermal efficiency by dissolving the chloride in ethanol and benzene to form a three-component type azeotropic mixt. and distilling the mixt.
CONSTITUTION: Ethanol 42 and hydrated ferrous chloride 1 are fed to dissolution vessel 2 and a soln. of chloride 1 in ethanol is supplied to dehydration tower 4. Benzene 43 is supplied 9 to the top of tower 4 through decanter 8 to form a three- component type azeotropic mixt. in tower 4. In tower 4 the soln. of chloride 1 is dehydrated, taken out as anhydrous ethanol soln. 19, and supplied 23 to crystallization tower 24. In tower 24 soln. 19 is heated with a circulation line including heat exchanger 35, and ethanol vapor formed is supplied to heat exchanger 31, condensed, and refluxed to vessel 2. On the other hand, anhydrous ferrous chloride is deposited by evaporation of ethanol in tower 24, fed to separator 26 as a slurry, and supplied to drier 37 to evaporate a small amt. of ethanol and to recover anhydrous ferrous chloride.
