Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a uniformly expanded pipe excellent in fixability as well as water sealing by a process in which an axial compression load is given to an elastic medium for expanding pipes inserted into an intended pipe to raise the expansion pressure up to a set level and then, reduced after it is maintained under the set pressure for fixed time.
CONSTITUTION: A pipe expansion pressure detector having electrodes 15 and 17 with an elastic medium made of rubber or the like grasped at both ends and sensing sections 16 and 18 is inserted into a pipe 1. Then, when an oil pressure is given to a hydraulic cylinder 6, an axial load is applied to a pressure rod 3 so that the medium 4 is compressed to expand the pipe radially. When the pipe expansion pressure reaches a preset level Po for the detector 10, the detector is actuated to provide a detection signl. The signal sctivates a timer 12 set for a given time. At the same time, a solenoid valve closes a hydraulic circuit to maintain the pressure of the medium 4 at the level Po. When the timer 12 reaches a preset time, the valve 13 is opened so that the pressure of the hydraulic cylinder 6 begins to fall.
