Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide better protection to metal magnetic thin-film media against contact friction phenomena with magnetic heads by laminating specific polysilicic acids films and orientative lubricant films on the metal magnetic thin-film media such as magnetic discs, magnetic drums, etc.
CONSTITUTION: Non-magnetic alloy layers 2 are plated on an alloy disc 1 having been finished to surfaces having sufficiently small undulations and are finished to mirror surfaces. Over these are then plated metal magnetic thin-film media 3 for high-density recording. After pretreatment layers 4 such as silane coupling agents are provided over these, coverings 5 composed of polysilicic acid containing stress relieving agent such as hydrolyzed polymer of alkoxide of metals such as Ti and metal oxides are provided. Further orientative lubricants 6, e.g., dimethyl silicone oil, are coated over these and are then baked, orienting to the portions containing the O binding with the underlayers and the portions containing the methyl groups exhibiting lubricity.
