Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide an ingot case material with improved high temp. ductility for continuus casting equipment, obtd. by ing slight amts. of Ce and Cr to a predetermined Cu-Ni-Si alloy. CONSTITUTION:An alloy obtd. by adding Ce; 0.0045-0.033% and Cr; 0.075- 0.285% to a Cu-0.45-2.0% Ni-0.3-0.7% Si alloy. The addn. of Cr results in grain refining and strengthening of the grain boundaries due to control of grain boundary precipitation of a Ni-Si cpd. The effects of adding Ce are grain refining and purification of the grain boundaries due to reduction of impurities on the dendrite bounddaries at the time of solidification. An ingot case made of this alloy for continuous casting equipment causes no crack in continuous use and has superior high temp. ductility.
