Abstract
PURPOSE: Electric discharge lamp of excellent phosphor characteristics, having a fluoroscent film of a composite halide fluoroscent substance composed of a specific compound activated by Eu2+ of the fluoride of an alkaline earth metal, the halide of an alkaline earth metal, and a potassium halide, and showing a high efficient near ultraviolet or blue luminescence by ultraviolet-ray excitation.
CONSTITUTION: Electric discharge lamp having a fluoroscent film comprising Eu2+- activated composite halide fluoroscent substance, represented by the formulaI, MeF2.xMe'X2.ykX':Eu2+, where Me and Me' and are all at least one of Ba, Sr, and Ca, X and X' are all at least one of Cl and Br, and x, y, and z are, respectively, a number which meets the conditions, 0.80≤x≤1.50, 0.10≤y≤1.50, and 0.001≤z≤0.20. Fixed amounts of the raw materials are mixed with at least one of EuX3" (X" is at least one of F, Cl, and Br), Eu2O3, or a compound convertible into Eu2O3 at high temperatures, together with the flux MgCl2, filled into a heat resistant vessel, and baked in a weak reductive atomsphere to convert Eu3+ into Eu2+. The fluoroscent substance so manufactured is made into the fluoroscent film of electric discharge lamp by means of a known method.
