Abstract
PURPOSE:To improves S/N by coding again input non-linear digital signals by uniform quantization after normalizing them in the block companding coding unit for a PCM telephone exchange system, etc. CONSTITUTION:Coding unit 20A consists of input terminals 11 to 16 where signals coded to non-linear digital signals are given, shift register 2 which delays input signals by one block, maximum value detection circuit 3 which detects a sample having the maximum amplitude, normalizing circuit 4 which an adder is main components, encoder 5 which codes again normalized signals by uniform quantization, and multiplexer 6 which transmito signal to a transmission line, and then, decoding unit 20B consists of multiplexer 8 which separates input signals from input terminal 7, register 9 for address, decoder 10 and reverse normalizing circuit 11.
