Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a high coding efficiency, by providing a learning function to secure the following to a partial change of the statistic quantity within the gathering of data and coding the information source while replacing a coding table by every proper period. CONSTITUTION:For example, a picture signal 10 applied to an input terminal 11 is converted into a digital signal by an A/D converter 1 and transferred to a Huffman coded part 2 and a distribution analyzing part 3. At said part 2 the signal 102 is coded through a coding table and transmitted to a transmission line 5. The luminance distribution of the input picture signals is calculated at the part 3 by the signal 102. The calculated luminance distribution signal 103 is transferred to a Huffman's code arithmetic part 4 to calculate a Huffman's code. This code is transferred to the part 2 to be written in place of the conventional code conversion table as a new one. In such way, the coding is carried out by means of a Huffman's code formed by the distribution of the block preceding to an input signal.
