Abstract

PURPOSE:To insert data in bit location, by detecting a redundancy bit in the bit series used for coding in a block, through the monitor of block codes in a modified NIC (quasi-instantaneous companding) system. CONSTITUTION:An audio signal is coded by 8-bit PCM from a terminal 2000 and inputted to a delay circuit 2030 and maximum value detection circuit 2040. The maximum value detection circuit 2040 detects the sample value of the maximum amplitude in a PCM signal and outputs a sample abcwx to a coding circuit 2060, timing circuit 2070, and multiplex circuit 2080 by taking the sample as a block code (apbpcpwpxp). The coding circuit 2060 makes code conversion to a 4-bit NIC code (SB1B2B3) and outputs it to the multiplex circuit 2080. The timing circuit 2070 inputs a block code outputted from the maximum value detection circuit and makes output only when the block code is 0000, and the B1 of the NIC code is replaced to data inputted from a data buffer memory 2050.
