Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the distribution of catalyst metals uniform by impregnating an aq. soln. contg. catalyst metal cpds. into a heat resistant monolithic carrier at least the surface of which is made of activated alumina and by flowing hot air into the through holes of the carrier at a specified temp. and rate to rapidly dry the cpds.
CONSTITUTION: An aq. soln. of catalyst metal cpds. such as chloroplatinic acid and palladium chloride is impregnated into a heat resistant monolithic carrier, e.g. obtd. by coating cordierite with a thin layer based on γ-alumina. The impregnated carrier is then dried by flowing hot air of 100W250°C into the through holes of the carrier from the openings at a rate of 10W120 m/min to dry the metal cpds. The dried carrier is calcined in an air stream at 600°C to prepare catalyst. In the drying process the drying time can be shortened by applying electromagnetic waves.
