Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst without being positioned by silicone, by coating cobalt chromite uniformly into a filmy shape on the surface of a sheet-shaped heat-resistant glass fibres consisting essentially of silica.
CONSTITUTION: A heat-resistant glass fiber cloth is immersed into an aqueous solution, which is prepared by adding propylene glycol and water to an aqueous solution obtained by mixing an aqueous solution of chromic acid and that of cobaltous acetate previously, and then is activated in the atomosphere of reducing gas containing hydrogen after coating the surface of the cloth. Further in the case of noble metal coating, the heat-resistant glass cloth to which the catalyst coating treatment is performed previously is immersed into an aqueous chloride solution of the noble metal, and then the immersed metal is dried and calcined. The catalyst obtained by said process is also used as a catalyst for the combustion of hydrocarbon contained in an exhausted gas from a drying furnace of a paint for motor cars without causing the spoiling deterioration of its catalytic activity by silicone contained in the exhausted gas.
