Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title catalyst with high CO removing rate while reducing catalyst production processes by dipping a catalyst carrier in an aq. soln. of salt of metal to be supported after which the carrier is immediately heat treated at high temp. without drying and reduced with H2.
CONSTITUTION: Catalyst carrier such as alumina 2 is impregnated 3 with PdCl2 soln. 1 so that 0.5 wt% metal such as Pd is suported on alumina 2. The impregnated alumina is immediately heat treated in process 5 in a thermostat of 120°C for 8 hr. PdCl2 in the heat treated alumina is then reduced with H2 in process 6 to obtain a CO oxidation catalyst consisting of Pd/alumina. This catalyst shows a CO removing rate of 52% in 1 hr of reaction time. A Pd/alumina catalyst compsn. obtd. through a drying process after impregnation of PdCl2 shows a CO removing rate of 43% under the same conditions.
