Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish efficient decomposition of ammonia into harmless components with effective use of heat through causing the ammonia to migrate to a distilled gas by setam-stripping containing ammnonia water and subsequent oxidation and reduction thereof.
CONSTITUTION: Water containing ammonia is heated to 90 to 95°C and fed into a stram distilling plant 1 from the top thereof. On the other hand, steam is introduced into the plant 1 from the bottom, thereof and brought into cdontact with the water containing the ammonia to cause the ammonia migrate toward the steam side. The resulting distilled gas is withdrawn through a duct 8 and heated to 200 to 330°C. The gas thus heated is introduced into an oxidation tower 2 to be oxidized and decomposed with a catalyst such as iron or copper into a nitrogen oxide- containing gas. The gas thus generated is introduced into a reduction tower 3 through a dust 10 to be reduced with a catalyst such as iron or copper into nitorgen, thsu making the water harmless.
