Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce poisoning effect and enhance activity of the silver catalyst by a method wherein an α-alumina carrier with a specific surface area of 0.1W5m2/g is immersed in a decomposable silver solution containing an alkali metal compound and, thereafter, subjected to heat treatment in a CO2 gas stream with a specific temp.
CONSTITUTION: An α-alumina carrier having a specific surface ara of 0.1W5m2/g is subjected to impregnation treatment in an impregnation liquid prepared from a decomposable silver solution capable of adjusting a silver support ratio to 5W25wt% against a product catalyst to which an alkali metal compound is contained in an amount of 0.001W0.03g equivalent per 1kg product catalyst and concentrated and dried to support said silver and said alkali metal compound. Subsequently, the supported carrier is activated by an air stream at a temp. of 100W400°C and, thereafter, subjected to heat treatment by a CO2 gas stream at a temp. of 50W400°C to obtain the silver catalyst for preparing ethylene oxide. Further, said catalytic components can be supported by subjecting said carrier to the impregnation treatment in the alkali metal compound containing liquid and, thereafter, to the impregnation treatment in the decomposable silver solution.
