Abstract

PURPOSE: To execute the electron beam welding at high efficiency on the carbon steel containing above 0.3% carbon, without generating the restraint crack, by again executing the electron beam welding after preheating the work to the aim depth of penetration while the electron beam is being oscillated.
CONSTITUTION: The groove 6 of the carbon steels 1, 2, containing above 0.3% C is electron beam welded to the aim depth of penetration by the electron beam 8 being oscillated at the frequency of about 100W500Hz in the direction of weld line 7; hereby, the bead of narrow breadth is formed, and the welding bead and its neighborhood are preheated. Next, the electron beam welding is again executed on the same weld line 7 without oscillating the beam. By these double electron beam weldings, the deformation of the work is minimized, and even if the restraint crack is caused by the first electron beam welding, this restraint crack is rewelded by the second electron beam welding. Besides, the preheating at the welding period is efficiently executed.
