Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the content of carbon in a welded metal and to prevent the generation of high temp. cracking in performing welding of a steel material by means of electron beam by fitting a steel material of a small content of carbon in a groove part and welding the material. CONSTITUTION:In welding a weld groove 2 of steel materials 1a and 1b of >0.22% C by electron beams, a steel material 5 of <0.18% C is inserted into the groove 2 and the materials are welded. The welded metal formed by melting is diluted with a low carbon content of the material 5, and has <=0.22% content of C, whereby the generation of high temp. cracking in the welded metal is prevented.
