Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for fillet welding and improve working efficiency and quality by beforehand forming a projecting or tapered part corresponding to the leg length of fillet weld required for strength on one of the base metals of the T-joint to be joined and subjecting these to electron beam welding.
CONSTITUTION: A projecting part 5 corresponding to the leg length of fillet weld necessary for strength is beforehand machined on a plate 1. After this is assembled with a rib 2, the joining portions whereof are subjected to electron beam welding to provide an electron beam weld zone 3. Exactly the same applies to forming of a tapered part 6 as well. This eliminates the need for fillet welding which has hitherto been required at the time of subjecting the T-joint to electron beam welding.
