Abstract

PURPOSE: An intermediate constituting the part of the α-aminoacid is synthesized, then, at the final stage, a mehylphosphorous monoalkyl ester is made to react, thus giving title compound useful as herbicide in the minimum consumption of expensive phosphorus reagents.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction between α-substituted aminovinylacetic ester of formula I [R1 is R3CONH- (R3 is 1W5C lower alkyl); Ph-CH2-N(R4)- (R4 is acetyl, etc.); R2 is 1W5C lower alkyl] and a methylphosphorous monoalkylester is effected in the presence of a radical initiator or under the irradiation of ultraviolet rays to prepare the compound of formula III. Then, the resulting compound is hydrolyzed with an acid or alkali to form D,L-2-amino-4-methyl-phosphinobutyric acid of formula IV.
