Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound with high optical purity which is an intermediate for pharmaceuticals, pesticides, esp. for lysine, by the asymmetric hydrogenation of a novel α-acylaminoacrylic acid derivative in the presence of a specific asymmetric hydrogenation catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An optically active ω-cyano-α-acylamino derivative of formula II (× shows an asymmetric center) is obtained by the catalytic asymmetric hydrogenation of a novel α-acylaminoacrylic acid derivative of formula I (R1=H, alkyl, or aralkyl; R2=alkyl, aralkyl, or aryl; n=0W3) in the presence of a Rh complex having optically a tive phosphine ligands. For example, (S)-N-acetyl-δ-cyano- norvaline.ethyl ester is obtained in a 90.6% yield.
