Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound having improved optical purity and useful as a raw material for the asymmetric synthesis of, e.g. optically active terpenes, polyesters, polyamides etc. by the asymmetric hydrogenation of itaconic acid using a specific catalyst comprising a cationic Rh complex and an amine.
CONSTITUTION: An optically active methyl succinic acid is prepared by the asymmetric hydrogenation of itaconic acid in the presence of an amine using a catalyst of cationic Rh complex having an optically active pyrrolidinodiphosphine ligand. The cationic Rh complex is, e.g. a compound shown in formula I [formula II= optically active pyrrolidinodiphosphine of e.g. formula III(X=optically active point; R1-R4= alkyl etc.; R5-R6=H, alkyl etc.); X-=Cl- 4, BF- 4 etc.; and the amine is methylamine, ethylamine etc.
USE: Row material for the asymmetric synthesis of optically active terpenes, polyesters, alkaloids etc.
