Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the title rotor with superior high and low temp. strength and superior low temp. toughness by adding Ta to a Ni-Cr-Mo-V low alloy steel followed by specified heat treatment and working.
CONSTITUTION: A low alloy steel contg. C; 0.05W0.30%, Si<0.2%, Mn; 0.3W 1.5%, Cr; 9W13%, Mo; 0.5W2.0%, V; 0.1W0.5%, Ni; 0.1W2.5% and Ta; 0.01W 1.0%. A low alloy steel of the above compsn. is refined, vacuum deoxidized with carbon, and cast. The casting is forged at 1100W1300°C, uniformly heated at 950W 1100°C, cooled to 100°C in oil or with water sprayed, and held at the temp. for several tens hr to homogenize the casting. It is finally tempered at 550W700°C. A tempered martensite structure contg. Ta carbide finely dispersed is obtd. as the final structure, giving a turbine rotor with superior high and low temp. strength and superior low temp. toughness.
