Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound useful as an intermeidate for the synthesis of antibacterials in high purity and yield, by acylating crude cephamycin C which will not be easily purified, and by adsorbing and desorbing the acylation product with a microporous nonionic adsorbent resin.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution of crude cephamycin C, e.g. a culture filtrate, is acylated with a carboxylic or sulfonic acid to give an N-acyl cephamycin C. The aqueous solution is then adjausted to pH ≤7 and treated with a microporous nonionic adsorbent resin. The adsorbed N-acyl cephamycin C is rinsed with water and eluted with a solvent, e.g. hydrous methanol or acetone. The eluted solution is purified by concentration or extrection to give pure N-acyl-cephamycin C, which is converted into a salt with an organic base, if necessary.
