Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a thermoluminous phosphor exhibiting thermoluminous characteristics of high sensitivity than that of a known alkaline earth metal fluoride thermoluminous phosphor by activating CaF2 or/and SrF2 as base material with one or more kinds of rare earth elements.
CONSTITUTION: CaF2 or/and SrF2 and one or more kinds of cpds. of Tb, Pr, Tm, Ho, Sm and Ce easily convertible into their oxides, e.g. fluorides, nitrates and chlorides are weighed so that the mixed compsn. formula is satisfied stoichiometrically, and they are mixed well with a ball mill or the like. In the formula it is desirable to be 5×10-4≤a≤2×10-3. The raw material mixt. is then filled in an alumina crucible or the like and calcined in a carbon atmosphere or a weakly reducing atmosphere such as H2-contg. N2 atmosphere at 600W1100°C. The resulting thermoluminous phosphor (TL phosphor) includes CaF2: 0.0008Pr. This TL phosphor is used in a thermoluminous dosimeter element (TLD element) to give a TLD element of high sensitivity.
