Abstract

PURPOSE: To obrain a fluorescent material with excellent luminance, etc., by adding a limited amt. of aluminum phosphate to a raw material in preparing a rare earth sulfide fluorescent material by the use of europium or terbium as an activator.
CONSTITUTION: Europium ar terbium oxide, a rare earth oxide sucha as yttrium or gadolinium oxide or a compd. capable of forming a rare earth oxide by heating, a composition giving an alkali metal sulfide by heating, and 0.001W0.2 mol of aluminum phosphate per mol of the rare earth oxide are mixed. Then the mixed raw materials are put in a quartz crucible, fired under an open atmosphere, washed with deionized water and dried to obtain the purpose fluorescent material. Thus the growth of a fluorescent material particle is accelerated by the aluminum phosphate and the fluorescent material is enhanced in luminance.
