Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a novel compound represented by TmFeMnO4 and having hexagonal lamellar structure, by mixing Tm2O3, MnO and Fe2O3 at specific molar ratios, and heating the mixture in a non-oxidizing atmosphere at or above a specific temperature.
CONSTITUTION: Powdery Tm2O3 of ≥99.9% purity, powdery MnO of ≥99.9% purity and powdery Fe2O3 of ≥99.9% purity are mixed together at molar ratios of about 1:2:1. The mixture is put into a transparent quartz tube, and the tube is evacuated with a vacuum pump, filled with non-oxidizing gas, and sealed with a gas burner. The tube is inserted into a "Siliconit " furnace maintained at ≥900°C and heated for about 1 day, and the specimin is taken out of the tube.
