Abstract

PURPOSE:To automatically obtain a sufficient mass range for obtaining perfect mass spectra by limiting the magnetic field sweep range by the output voltage of the ion detecting electrode disposed on the outer side of ion beam central track. CONSTITUTION:Sample is ionized by an ion source 1. The ions are dispersed and converged by a magnetic field 2. The ions detected in an ion detector 3 ar recorded 5 as mass spectra via amplifier 4. Magnetic field sweeping is accomplished by a sweeper 6 and a magnetic field power source 7. When in this case an ion detecting electrode 8 is provided on the outer side of the ion center track in the magnetic field 2, ions being received in the electrode 8 reduces with lapse of the magnetic field sweep time from low mass to high mass, whereby the same region is detected. The output thereof is compared 11 with the output of a comparing reference power source 19 via DC amplifier 9 and when it is lower than the reference voltage, a magnetic field sweeper 6 is stopped.
