Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce a pressure drop, prevent main valve vibration, and reduce processes compared with the conventonal method of processing, by shaping tapered elliptical coarse holes, diminishing inside, on the strainer proper.
CONSTITUTION: Flat steel plate 3' is used to make steam strainer proper 3 as used in thermal and nuclear steam turbine main valves. Two steel plates are placed one on top of the other, and coarse holes C are bored on them. Each plate is shaped into a cylinder by roll bending and welded. Then, coarse holes become elliptical tapers diminishing inside. This shape allows steam to flow in naturally. Consequantly, a strainer is obtained in which resistance to steam flow is reduced, and pressure loss is also reduced. Further, since boring is performed on flat steel plates, working hours are remarkably reduced as well as the number of processes.
