Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a compressor shaft of high accuracy through a small number of processes, by introducing a pressure medium into a hollow steel fitted with a counterweight, to expand the pipe for plastic working.
CONSTITUTION: To manufacture the shaft 28 of a compressor, a hollow steel pipe 21 is first bent by a press 22 so that a crank pin section 23 is made eccentric as to the axis of the shaft 28. A counterweight 24, which is punched out to a desired shape and whose calked portion is machined so that a circular hole is provided, is fitted on the calked portion of the steel pipe 21. The steel pipe 21 and the counterweight 24 are set inside an upper and a lower molds 25, 26. A pressure medium 27 such as liquid or a rubberlike substance is introduced under high pressure into the steel pipe 21 as the counterweight 24 and the pipe 21 are put in tight contact with each other by a press. The steel pipe 21 is thus expanded and plastically deformed along the shape of the calked portion 24a of the counterweight 24 and the upper and the lower molds 25, 26 so that the shaft 28 is completed.
