PURPOSE: To highly effiently manufacture the approximately spherical hollow product with accurate outer spherical surface without flash, by cold forging the previously prepared thick-walled cylinder of a specified length without restraining the inner diameter, so as to gradually reduce the outer diameter toward both end portions, and also, by forming the outer surface into approximate sphere.
CONSTITUTION: The specified thick-walled cylinder is previously prepared from the rod type raw material; this cylinder is set in the space formed by punches 1, 2, 3, 4, and is pressed; hereby, the approximately spherical hollow product 5 is formed. In this case, the lower dies 3, 4, have floating springs 8 in the horizontal direction between the shrink ring 6 and the fixing member 7, on purpose to prevent the miss shift of dies 3, 4; when a miss shift happens in dies, the lower dies 3, 4, being guided by the thick-walled cylinder, horizontally move on the surface of the bearing member 9, and hereby, the miss shift of dies is dissolved. Besides, the excess metal at nighborhood of both end portions flows into the gutter during the forming work, so that the thick-walled cylinder does not receive high pressure; therefore, the flash does not flow out into the outer spherical surface, and then, the product 5 with highly accurate outer spherical surface can be manufactured.
