Abstract

PURPOSE: A low carbon equivalent steel is adjustedly cooled in annealing process to thereby provide a 50 Kg steel for ship building use, having an excellent weldability.
CONSTITUTION: A steel containing C<0.18%, Si: 0.10 to 1.0%, Mn<2.0%, P<0.035%, P<0.035%, Nb: 0.02 to 0.10%, V: 0.02 to 0.10%, Sol Al: 0.01 to 0.09% is heated to a temperature of 880 to 950°C for annealing. In annealing process, cooling rate is controlled in a range of 2 to 4°C/sec from ferrite modification starting temperature 800°C to ferriet modification finishing temperature 550°C. In such process, large grain bainite formation is effectively prevented, thereby providing a 50kg E class strength useful for ship building steel plate excellent in weldability.
