Abstract
PURPOSE: To sharply reduce the quantities of alkali and methanol used, by introducing one portion of sludge returned to a final denitrification process.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of tanks are directly connected to a first nitration tank 2a, a first denitrification tank 1a, a second nitration tank 2b and a second denitrification tank 1b alternately, and raw water W is partition injected to denitrification tanks 1a, 1b, 1c except the first nitration tank 2a and a final denitrification tank 3. Sludge is returned to the first nitration tank from a settling tank 4 while one portion is returned to the final denitrification tank 3. NH+ 4 is oxidized to NO- 2 and NO- 3 at the first nitration tank 2a, denitrification is performed by utilizing organic matter in raw water at the first denitrification tank 1a and this operation is successively repeated. Residual NO- 3 is removed at the final denitrification tank 3, to which methanol M is added. Since alkali formed by denitrification reaction can be utilized by the nitration tanks, the quantity of alkali used for neutralization can be reduced. When introducing one portion of sludge returned to a final denitrification process, denitrification speed becomes quick.
