Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover available components in waste soln. formed in gas-absorption with alkali so as to use them effectively as secondary raw material or as an energy source, by electrolyzing the waste soln. having absorbed HCl contained in exhasut gas.
CONSTITUTION: Waste soln. formed in gas absorption process using usually aq. NaOH soln., contg. substantial quantity of by-product NaCl, is introduced to an electrolytic cell and is electrolyzed. During electrolysis, H2 gas and NaClO are produced, the NaClO being formed by the action of nascent oxygen which is generated at the electrode, and it is contained in the electrolyte. The NaClO oxidizes COD and BOD components, and coloring matters, while the H2 gas is utilized for an incinerating furnace, or as a fuel oil additive for the burning of pollutant separated in an after-treatment apparatus for the waste soln. formed in the treatment of residual ash. The NaClO is used as a sterilant for the waste soln. formed in residual ash treatment or for usual foul water or waste water.
