Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain permanent magnet which is excellent in magnetic characteristics and mechanical strength by the procedure in which a poly amide-containing solution is added to a rare earth element-cobalt magnet powder and then the mixture is molded by compression in a magnetic field, then impregnated with epoxy resin, and lastly molded again by a hot press forming. CONSTITUTION:An intermetallic compound magnet powder composed of cobalt and rare earth metals, e.g., samarium, yttrium, cerium, misch metal, etc., is mixed and dispersed in an alcoholic solution of 0.01 to 5 wt.% polyamide and then the mixture is molded by compression in a magnetic field, where the intensity of magnetic field is 16 kOe for example and the pressure of molding is 3 t/cm<2> for example. Then, after the removal of solvent, the molding is impregnated with 2 wt.% (on the basis of magnet powder) epoxy resin and then subjected to a hot press forming after preheating to obtain a permanent magnet. Thus, the use of the liquid polyamide, serving as a curing agent and a lubricant, can increase magnetic characteristic and mechanical strength.
