Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the crystal orientation of a rare-earth metal intermetallic compound magnet and at the same time to facilitate its quantity production, by forming a mold composed of a powder of intermetallic compound of rare-earth metals and transition metals added with resin powder as binder. CONSTITUTION:A powder of intermetallic compound composed of rare-earth metals (R) and transition metals (M), in the range from R2M7 to R2M17, is added with resin powder as binder. A mold is formed by applying a magnetic field and pressure on this substance. For resin powder, thermo-setting resin, such as epoxy, polyester, phenol, melamine, urea, or thermo-plastic resin, such as vinyl, acryl, ABS, polyetylene, may be used. The grain diameter is set at 0.01-100mu. By this, using a resin powder whose grain diameter is about the same as that of the magnetic powder, 2-200mu, it is possible to disperse the binder uniformly, improve the magnetic field orientation, simplify the molding and facilitate quantity production.
