Abstract

PURPOSE: Electrically seamed steel pipe is, after welding work, tempered or annealed at only weldedly seamed portion, and cold drawn without subjecting to the total pipe heat treatment, thereby saving heat treat energy and providing good-quality, inexpensive cold drawn steel pipe.
CONSTITUTION: From the sixth roll 22, an unfinished roll P0 unwelded at joining edge is transmitted out and welded at the joining edge by the high frequency welder 23 to provide a welded pipe P1. The electric seam steel pipe manufacturing machine 23 is further provided with a heat treatment means 24 by electric induction heater, electric resistance heater, flame heater. In the heat treatment means 24, the welded pipe P1 is heated only at the seamed portion at a temperature of 740 to 1000°C to provide a weld-seamed heat-treated pipe P2, which is cooled at a specified rate to be tempered or annealed. The pipe P2 is cut to a given lengh and treated by the cold draw equipment 3 to provide a finished, drawn pipe product.
