Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to confine delaying optical fiber signals for a desired time in response to the control signals of delay means thereby to effect the desired delay by using a single delaying optical fiber which is connected to the group of input and output terminals while forming a closed loop.
CONSTITUTION: In order to effect delay in optical pulses, optical signal input fiber 4 is excited, and a drive circuit 2 is operated in response to the timing signals from the outside so that the optical input signals are guided into a delaying low loss optical fiber 3 of closed loop shape. If, under this condition, a direction changing switch circuit 1 is changed to a parallel mode, the optical pulse trains taken into the optical fiber 3 turns on and on within the closed loop so that they are maintained for a long time. After a desired period has passed, the switch circuit 1 is changed to an interchange mode. The pulse signals temporarily stored in the fiber 3 are guided out through an optical signal output fiber 5.
